A Day of Fun for the whole family (including family members with tails) Bark in the Park is a FREE event for animal lovers and their pets! The day long celebration will include contests, music, vendors, crafts, the Mutt Strut and much more!

In February 2007, representatives from the City of Alabaster invited Shelby Humane Society to join them in creating a fun event for dogs and their people. The Bark in the Park pet festival grew from this partnership. The inaugural event, which was held October 6, 2007, was attended by more than 800 people and 200 pets and generated over $12,000 to benefit the homeless pets of Shelby County.

The first year success proved that people in Shelby County love to attend events with their pets and enjoy supporting their local animal welfare agency. Because Bark in the Park was so popular in 2007, the City of Alabaster and Shelby Humane Society have decided to pursue the event annually.

Bark in the Park 2010 will take place in Veteran's Park in Alabaster on October 2. The all day affair will feature activities for both pets and people, including: the Mutt Strut, a mile-long walk in which participants have the option to seek sponsorships to benefit Shelby Humane Society; contests; live entertainment, children's activities and a fashion show.

Entry to Bark in the Park is free.
